One of the primary reasons for my deciding to purchase a 2007 Honda Civic Sedan in the last quarter of 2006, was its reportedly better-than-average fuel economy. According to the Civic Sedan spec sheet, the automatic transmission version of this car is supposed to get 30 miles per gallon during city driving and 40 miles per gallon on the highway. Of course these numbers are probably based on ideal conditions, but should still be within a few MPG of actual results. At least that's what they tell you when your sitting in the dealership asking about the car.
From day one, I've kept track of every tank of gas and how far it has gotten me. This has given me the data necessary to determine what sort of mileage I am actually getting on each tank of gas. By taking the difference in odometer readings each time I fill the tank and dividing that by the amount of gas that is required to fill it, I can come up with a fairly accurate representation of the miles per gallon rate that was achieved on the prior tank of gas.
So far, I'm not impressed. Stay tuned. The table below will update each time I put more gas into my Civic.
